MONTRÉAL, Canada – Lors des 16 jours d’activisme contre la violence fondée sur le sexe, Rio Tinto renforce son engagement à lutter contre la violence conjugale et familiale en augmentant son soutien à plus d’organisations locales partout au Canada. Cette année, Rio Tinto fera un don de 400 000 $ qui sera réparti entre 15 organisations offrant des services essentiels aux personnes touchées par la violence conjugale et familiale.Sophie Bergeron, directrice exécutive, Rio Tinto Fer et Titane et Diamants, a déclaré : « Rio Tinto croit fermement que tout le monde mérite de se sentir en sécurité. Notre engagement va au-delà du lieu de travail et s’étend aux communautés partout au Canada. Nous consacrons notre soutien aux organisations locales qui jouent un rôle clé pour assurer la sécurité des femmes, des enfants et des membres de la communauté LGBTQ+. »Elle ajoute : « Alors que nous nous unissons pour contrer la violence conjugale et familiale, je prends également un moment pour souligner la Journée nationale de commémoration et d’action contre la violence faite aux femmes, le 6 décembre, en mémoire des événements tragiques à la Polytechnique de Montréal en 1989, où j’ai moi-même étudié. Cette journée sert de rappel bouleversant du travail qu’il reste à faire pour créer un monde sans violence. »
Depuis 2020, Rio Tinto a contribué à hauteur de 1,185 million de dollars à cette initiative.Ce soutien financier a eu un réel impact sur le terrain en aidant des organisations comme Northern Mosaic Network. Chelsea Thacker, membre de la direction exécutive de l’organisation, a dit : « Le don de Rio Tinto à notre organisation renforce notre travail continu visant à faire des Territoires du Nord-Ouest un endroit plus sécuritaire et équitable pour les jeunes, les familles et les adultes de la communauté 2SLGBTQIA+. En tant que petite organisation locale, nous avons souvent de la difficulté à faire comprendre aux grandes organisations et entreprises la valeur de notre travail. Le soutien de Rio Tinto aide à montrer à notre équipe que nos contributions ont un impact notable, ce qui nous permet de continuer à servir notre communauté avec passion sans nous soucier de la façon dont nous allons maintenir nos activités. »Dans le cadre de son engagement envers la sécurité et le bien-être de ses employés, Rio Tinto met à leur disposition des ressources cruciales, notamment des congés payés supplémentaires, un hébergement d’urgence et un soutien financier s’ils sont victimes de violence conjugale et familiale.
