LABRADOR CITY, Canada – La Compagnie minière IOC de Rio Tinto a fait un don de 125 000 dollars canadiens à la Croix-Rouge canadienne pour soutenir les efforts de secours à la suite des récents incendies de forêt dans la région du Labrador Ouest et s'est engagée à verser un montant supplémentaire de 75 000 dollars canadiens pour soutenir les organisations communautaires participant à la phase de rétablissement.
Alors que les incendies de forêt ont forcé les résidents de Labrador City à évacuer, y compris plus de 2 000 employés d’IOC, il s'agit de la deuxième évacuation de ce type au Labrador en quelques mois. Les fonds donnés aideront la Croix-Rouge canadienne à répondre aux besoins urgents, notamment en matière de nourriture, de logement et de fournitures essentielles pour les personnes touchées par les incendies de forêt à Labrador City.
Le président et chef de la direction d'IOC, Mike McCann, a déclaré : « En ces temps difficiles, la force de notre communauté réside dans la coopération et le soutien mutuel.
