Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia -- Rio Tinto Mongolia has successfully completed the renovation of 10.2 hectares of the Children’s park which has 58 years of history in Ulaanbaatar, transforming it into a sustainable green park. The project involved the participation of over 10,000 citizens who shared their ideas on the design, layout, and facilities of the park.
Comprehensive landscaping includes community facilities, an amphitheater, a children's playground, a skatepark, a rainwater harvesting irrigation system, and a pond. About 80% of the land consists of green spaces covering a total of 40,000 trees, shrubs and green grass. The park aims to provide a green accessible space for everyone in the heart of Ulaanbaatar.
Rio Tinto Mongolia Executive Director Kh. Amarjargal said "We are proud of this transformative public-private partnership project, reflecting our deep commitment to the society and sustainable development in Mongolia. Rio Tinto is confident that the creation of a green space will support the green development of the capital city, where more than half of Mongolia's population lives, improving the quality of life and driving a positive impact on their health and social cohesion in the long term”
Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Kh.Nyambaatar said “In recent years, there has been a growing global emphasis on developing greener, more accessible cities. Mongolia and its capital, Ulaanbaatar, are also moving in this direction. As the capital city governor and a citizen of Ulaanbaatar, I would like to express my gratitude to Rio Tinto Mongolia for creating this green public space in Ulaanbaatar and contributing to sustainable development. Congratulations to everyone who voiced their opinions and contributed to the creation of this park together”
Rio Tinto Mongolia will continue to manage the park for another two years and then it will transition to the City Administration.
